The Director Workspace / The Director Window Types
Subtitles of the Movie
In the previous movie I demonstrated some of the major Director windows in the Director interface. There are actually two types of windows in Director: Document Windows and Tool windows. Typically you'll use Document Windows to create or edit content and Tool windows to view or modify properties of that content. For example, the Paint Window, which I can access by clicking on this icon right here at the top of the interface, notice that there's a tool tip there that says Paint Window, click on that. The Paint Window allows you to create and edit images. In contrast, the Property Inspector is a tool window. It allows you to change the properties of an image that you create here in the Paint Window and to change the properties of other content. You can access the Property Inspector from the main menu up here; window, Property Inspector. Both types of windows are available from this window Panel. In addition there are icons along the top of the interface for some of the more important windows such as the Stage, Cast Window, Score are the three biggies. There's the Property Inspector is next. The Library Palette, there's my Paint Window, the Vector Shape Window, the Text Window and the Shockwave 3D Window. Now, in terms of Document Windows, the most important ones include the Stage here, the Score. Notice I can toggle these on and off by clicking on those buttons up there. Let's go ahead and close the Paint Window and notice that there is my score and I can toggle it on or off. The Cast Window is another document window and that toggles on and off as well by clicking on the Cast Window button at the top of the interface. The various media editors, including the text editor, QuickTime and the DVD windows are another example of Document Windows. Tool windows include the following: Property Inspector, the Tool Palette over here. I usually keep that over to the left. You can also toggle that on and off by choosing Tool Palette from the window Menu. The Text Inspector is another tool window. That's found at the bottom of the window Menu down here, Text Inspector. Again, the tools windows allow you to view or modify properties of the content that you'll be creating in the Document Windows. And then the last tool window is the Control Panel accessible here from the window Menu. There's the Control Panel for controlling the playback and other properties of your Director movies. So there you have the two different types of director windows. Let me now move on to the next movie and review how to navigate and customize in the Director workspace.
