Getting Started / New in Director 11 pt. 2
Subtitles of the Movie
Director 11 has also made some enhancements to the Script window. You can now browse and create scripts more easily using a Dictionary view or the script browser view. I'm going to go ahead and expand my left panel there in the script window and notice that I have tabs up here for Dictionary and Script Browser. The Script Browser allows me to browse through a list of my scripts. The Dictionary provides like a tree of the different kinds of scripts. There's my Lingo scripts, 3D Lingo scripts and scripting extras. So it's categorizing the scripts much as Flash does if you're familiar with the Flash ActionScripting script window. Notice that the Script Browser also has a List View or a Script Explorer View. The Explorer View allows you to also categorize your scripts by behaviors, movie scripts, parent scripts, cast member scripts. These are the current behaviors in this movie; quite a number of them. These are the current parent scripts. I don't have any. And here are my cast member scripts. So you can see that most of the scripts here are behaviors; a very nice way of organizing the different types of scripts, behaviors, Lingo and JavaScript that you have available here in Director 11. So that's enhancements to the Script window. Director 11 also has a new physics engine from AGEIA Technologies Incorporated. You can use the physics extra, which is a full-integrated, rigid-bodied physics simulation engine in Director to do the following: create rigid bodies of primitive and complex shapes, register collision callback for colliding bodies, enable and disable callback for specific rigid bodies, connect objects to each other using constraints and also implement terrains in the physics scene using static concave objects. Director 11 has support for Mac OS X version 10.4 with Intel processors, as well as Windows Vista. Shockwave Player is supported on Mac OS X version 10.4 as well, as Windows Vista and Mac PowerPC. Shockwave projectors are also supported on Mac OS X version 10.4 as well as Windows Vista. You have a multi-user extra so you can now develop movies supported on windows and Mac OS. This extra is available out of the box. Back in the Script window you also have code snippets. These reduce the learning curve for scripting in JavaScript and Lingo. You can use these code samples that are provided for all methods in the scripting dictionaries here. Notice you have a categorized Lingo Dictionary. With these snippets you also have something in here called scripting extras that give you code snippets as well. And the last enhancement that I want to talk about or improvement in Director 11 is the upgraded DirectX 9 driver. You use the DirectX 9 driver for rendering 3D graphics. Support for DirectX 9 enables availability of graphics processing unit performance on the variety of video cards and provides a platform for further 3D enhancements in future releases.
