In this movie, let's talk about Connecting to some Websites, that's the reason we've been looking at Contribute and learning all those fundamentals. You do have to get a connection to a site in order to edit the pages; sometimes people don't understand you have to have the rights to be able to connect to these sites in order to edit pages. I can't just go out here, connect to anything in Contribute, any website, anywhere, it doesn't work that way. You also can't just go to a website and maybe download all the files, it just does not work that way, you've got to have the rights. So let's get a connection set up. As you can see right here I deleted my website connections, the only thing I have left right now is just my blog connection. What we're going to do is go through and reset those up so you can see how I did it. Now the website connections we're going to set up are to a couple areas on my website, this is my main website right here we'll connect to it and we'll also connect to this sub-website in a lower directory on my website. I wanted to make sure that you realize you can do that, so maybe you're building a new look in your subdirectory and then you can move that later. Let's go back to Contribute and to make a New Connection we can just Select Website Connection right there and right here it says, To get started, you're going to need some connection information. What we're going to need is the URL which is the Uniform Resource Locator, that's our website address, and we're going to need our FTP information, which is the File Transfer Protocol. You're going to need a login and a password, so you need that information in order to go through this. Right here it also tells us if we received a Connection Key we could just Double-click it and Set up our Connection Automatically, we don't have a connection key, we're going to set these up manually, so we'll click Next. We're going to Select a Website here to Connect to, we're not going to do a blog right now. And what's the address? So it is, I could go browse for that if I need to , I'm going to click Next, the next question is how do we want to connect to that Web Server? FTP is what we're going to use but there's also Secure FTP, just our local network it could be locally here on a server that I have or at my company at a server. Now Web DAV, that is Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning, now that's just a set of extensions that allows computer users to edit and manage files collaboratively on remote servers but we're going to use simple FTP. Now the name of our FTP server, I could use an actual IP Address it could be FTPdotwhateverdotcom. I'm going to type in my FTP username and my password and then I'm going to click Next. Notice if you ever change your mind throughout this you've always got your back button or your cancel button, you can always get help too. So right now it's testing my permissions, testing my connection to make sure I have accurate information here. Now it's downloading some information and right here is, I need my full name, that way this'll show kind of who has the file checked out and-or they can e-mail me if they need to, if they need to use the file. And it's asking me if I want to be an administrator I need the administrative password if I want to be a writer, I can edit pages but I can't publish, here I can create and edit as well as publish, see all these options I've got here. Right now I'm just going to be a publisher, let's try that. And right here's my website information, if you need to you could print that out, do a screen shot that way you've got that information later on. And then I will just click Done, notice on each step it's got to go out there and it's got to contact the server, it's got to download those files, it's got to connect all that information, so sometimes it does take a little bit of time. - Right now it's updating our templates, its synchronizing things so that I can update and create drafts for different pages on my website. And there it is I'm connected. If I look at Homepages, now I've got that website there, I can also click my Contribute Start page and there is also that website connection. Alright, so we've got one website connection, in the next movie we'll try another one.
