In this movie, let's talk about images or graphics in Contribute. When we're talking about images or graphics we're talking about digital images or graphics. Those can be done in a variety of formats. Those images can be scanned and then we can put them on our website, we can take those pictures with a webcam that's built right into our laptop, or another webcam that we've connected to our computer. We can take pictures directly from the web, we can take them from a digital camera, we can also take them off, of a website, and drag them over. Now there's several options for images, there's four right here. There's PNG, which is Portable Network Graphics, that has lostless data compression. There's no jagged edges and the file size for that is pretty small. You've got JPG, that's Joint Photographics Group, that has lossy compression and is typically used for photos. GIF or GIF as many people say that is Graphics Interchange Format, that one supports animation so you can have those little bouncing little things all over the place if you want to. If you do use animation, keep it calm, don't get too many on there. And BMP is the good old Bitmap. These are your file extensions for some of the possible digital images you might use. Typically if you have photographs which a lot of photographs are excellent to put on a website because they give the real feel and the real deal so to speak for people. JPEG is your way to go, it's going to be compressed, but it's also going to be nice and clean. Now when you add these images, no matter what format you use, make sure you add some alt text, or it's called an alt tag. It's alt, that's a description of that image incase someone can't see the image itself. Maybe their Internet connection so slow and the picture's pretty big, and they don't want to wait for it, so they stop it so it doesn't load. Or some people have accessibility issues and they can't see the pictures very well so you can add that text and then they might have a Screen Reader that reads that text to them. Another reason it's good to have alt text is sometimes people don't understand your images. If I have an image that allows somebody to email me, and they don't understand that that's what that image is for, then that alt text can explain it to them. So make sure you add alt text anywhere that you can onto your images. Another way that people have alt text is a lot of times they'll have their logo in the top left corner. On that logo then they'll have the alt text of their business's name so you want to make sure you include alt text anytime. So let's go and start inserting some images, and look at those options. We can go insert an image with here with our Image Button, we can also use Insert, on the Menu Bar. Either way you've got that option. I'll click Image here and you can see we've got several options to get an image. I'm going to get one off, of my computer, I downloaded some. If you don't have any images you could always open up your My Pictures folder, there's always sample images in there that come with your computer operating system. I'm going to go grab one here, I can look at different options of those pictures if I want to, and let's put this one in there. Notice it decreased the size of the image because it exceeded the size limit set by the website administrator. Alright I've got that image in there, it's gigantic and huge but luckily I can change that. So what I want you to do right now is just go add some images to your page. If you don't like it, you can click Edit, and Undo the Image, if you don't want that image in there. But go in, grab some images off your computer, and get them on your page, so we've got some images to work with.
