In this movie, let's talk about Keywords or Descriptions for Pages. Now Keywords are just simple short little phrases or even single words that define the main point of our website. Basically those Keywords are what the search engines little robots are going to go out there and pull from our site, and throw it into it's database so when people do a search on Google for example, it will pick up and see that these Keywords are in our site, so that might be a good hit for whatever their search term is. Now what we have to do is add Keywords in the description to our web page so that people can actually find it when they do the Google search. Now the one thing that to keep in mind though, Keywords are not the only thing that matter, the title of your site matters, the consistency in your site matters, if all of your headings are goofy and have nothing to do with the information on your site, you're going to be ranked lower. Search engines constantly change how they figure out where the hits are going to be, so you can't really beat the search engine and try to out wit it. You want to keep things consistent and constant on your site. Everything goes together. One thing I'll show you here is on my website, if I view this source, and I just right click there, so I can view the page source, right here you can see my Keywords that I put in there, on that page, and you can also see my description. So these Keywords, and you can pretty much go to any website, right click on it, view the source, look for the meta name, and then you'll find some areas where this information is. You can see their Keywords, especially if there's another website out there similar to yours, not exact, but maybe they sell similar products or provide the same type of service, look what Keywords they are using. The other thing to keep in mind, is update your Keywords. If you offer new services, if you change the location of your business to a new city, get that in there, if you expand to a new city or a new building, get some of that stuff in there, to keep things current. So what we need to do is go up to Format, and go down to Keywords and Description. Got our three dots, so we're going to be asked for more information. Right here's where we can put our Keywords in there. Maybe we want to put CS5, can we put commas in between these to keep them separated, we can also just separate everything with a single space too, you don't necessarily have to a comma. A description of our site, you don't want to get too lengthy in there, you don't want paragraphs and paragraphs of information, so make sure that you keep it short and sweet. And then of course, add your Keywords. And then I'll click OK, and that has been added. Because if you go back up to Format, Keywords and Description, notice it stays in there. So what you really need to do is think about your site that you're working with, think about what Keywords are needed. What do other people think about when their going to look up on the Internet, your services or your products. What do they call it? Ask somebody who's a friend to think about what Keywords they might type in to get to maybe your athletic apparel site, maybe they would type in T shirts or Sweatshirts, or team T shirts. That way you know kind of what Keywords to put in there. Sometimes it's easier for an outside person to know what words somebody would put in there, versus you who knows your business or products or elements so well. It's usually easier for somebody on the outside to tell you what simple Keywords to put in there.
