The Contribute Workflow / Workflow pt. 4
Subtitles of the Movie
In this movie, let's look at the final step in the workflow process within Contribute, the publishing element. We've gone through people browsing the pages, then they can simply click edit. So let's go up here and edit this page and our final step then is to actually publish the page and again, when you click edit page, it brings it down and you can actually make all your changes. We'll go in there, we'll type something and then what your options are is to actually publish it, which means it sends it up to the publishing server, you can send it for review. Some people you don't have to give rights for publishing. You can just let them send it on to the next person so that they review it and then if it's accepted, they can publish it or they can even send it back for more editing. That all is set up within your user rights. You can just save it for later. I can click save for later, it takes me back to my main page and I can work on other elements. Let's go back to services, click edit page and you'll see right here I've still got my changes. And I can also just discard it if I don't want to work with it. I'm going to go ahead and hit publish and then it give me congratulations, I've got that done and now it's going to take me out to the internet on that browsable page and shows me my changes. Now, what I want to do is also show you if I click on that out on the internet, there's my changes right there. I'm in the web browser. Same place, same information. If you don't see it in your web browser, make sure you hit that refresh button and then you'll have the latest page that's there. Now, you can also go back to Contribute and we can edit our blog. So let's go to view, home pages and choose our Contribute CS3 blog. Let's click on one of our posts and let's edit that entry and here we've got our previous changes. We never published them. So what we can do now again is publish, save them for later or discard them. So let's hit publish. You'll notice there wasn't an option there to send it for review. And then there we go. We've got our element changed. It's in there and we're browsing and you can see that change. Now, when you're editing your website, what happens is in Dreamweaver, I'm just going to show you this element within Dreamweaver, the web designer creates your website within Dreamweaver. Now, when you check out a page, if I check out the services page in Contribute, which means I click edit page, it will put a padlock in here for the web developer so that they know that you're working on the file. When you publish the page, it automatically checks it back in. In other words, it removes the padlock. It puts a .lck file within Dreamweaver to show me that somebody is working on that file. They could be working on it within another web design program or they could be working on it within Contribute. Now, if I need to work on a page in the web development area, I have to go check it out and then I have to go check it back in. Ok, in Dreamweaver I have to do more steps, whereas in Contribute, it makes it a lot simpler for people. They simply edit the page and then they publish it. When they click edit, it checks it out, puts the little padlock in the file there for me, then I can check it back in and it removes the padlock automatically. So again, Contribute is very simplified. You don't have to have any great web design skills. You don't have to watch out for checking in and checking out, making sure that you've checked things back in because within the web development program, you have to make sure that you get it back in there so other people can use it. Now, if I had it check out on the web development side and you went over here to edit it within Contribute, it would tell you that it was locked by another user, being me, and that I was working on it. Therefore, you know to come back later and edit it at a later time. That's some information about publishing within Contribute, whether you have a blog or a website, so let's move on and look at a little bit more information for Contribute CS3.
