Introducing Adobe Contribute CS3 / About Adobe Contribute
Subtitles of the Movie
In this movie, let's learn a little bit more about Adobe Contribute CS3. Contribute was designed to allow those who do not need access to the advanced or intermediate elements of a website or a blog to easily update content. Contributors to websites don't have to worry about scripts, HTML coding or accidentally deleting files they don't know anything about. Contribute will work with a new site or an existing website. That website can have tons of images, tons of pages, tons of information and it'll work well with Contribute. You can have a brand-new blog. You can have an existing blog that has lots of posts and comments and again, it works great with Contribute. If you have a website, that site can be held within your company's intranet or in the public internet. It could be on your web server or a different host like GoDaddy on their web server. Anything'll work. For blogs, you can easily set up a blog connection by using places out on the internet that work well with Contribute. Blogger is one example of a place that works really well with Contribute. Sign up for a free account, set up a free blog and you can make an immediate connection to that in Contribute. Another thing you might want to look at is WordPress. WordPress is open source, it's very easy to use, works well again with Contribute and one more you might want to look at TypePad, another blog hosting company that works great with Contribute. There's another one called Roller Web Blogger. There are several out there that you can work with within Contribute. There are three basic areas to consider when you're going to use Contribute software. One is the development area. You're going to have to have a web developer create your website if you don't currently have one or have somebody set up a blog for you. Adobe products will allow those developers to make a great site and then you can easily update content and maintain that with Contribute. One place that you can use is Macromedia Dreamweaver. This will allow you to create web pages, or your web developer to create those and what they can do is create an HTML page, adjust the template and then within that template, they can add editable regions. Those editable regions are what Contribute editors will actually type in. Now, you don't have to make a template. You don't have to make those editable regions. You could just have flat HTML and work with that also within Contribute. Now, your next thing to think about for Contribute is who is going to maintain the site. The contributors can be your friends, family, managers, business owners, students, just anybody. Contribute works like a word processor. Just like Word, WordPerfect, any of those. So the experience is very familiar to people. You can type text like you type just in a word processor. You can add pictures, tables, links. Contribute allows users to edit, publish and then browse for website content. It's really easy to use. Now, the third area to consider is the Contribute administrator setup. You're going to want to have one person in charge that sets up all the Contribute users, sets up their rights and permissions. You need the correct permissions set up that will allow people only to edit files that they need to. Typically you'll have one administrator, but you can have several if you want to. You just have to make sure you share that administrative password. Contribute is part of the creative suite so it can be purchased by itself or as part of that suite, of course. Contribute is also filled with lots and lots of good help files. So let's take a minute and keep learning more about Contribute so that we can make a website connection and a blog connection.
