Whilst the examples I have shown you in this chapter certainly provide you with great ways of improving learning interaction the Advanced Actions feature is still fairly limited. For example, if you wanted to enable your learners to print out a series of slides then there isn't any way that you could do that using Advanced Actions. Flash, on the other hand, would certainly enable you to create this level of functionality. The problem is, is that most Captivate users are not ActionScript programmers and don't either have the time or the inclination, for that matter, to learn this incredibly powerful scripting language. To bridge the gap between ActionScript developers and Captivate users Adobe introduced, in Captivate 4, Widgets. Widgets are configurable SWF objects developed in Flash that enable Captivate users to include enhanced interaction in their instructional content. Now, before going any further I'd like to point out that although Captivate does ship with a number of Widgets and also if you are a Flash developer, you can get access to the source FLA files, in order to create Widgets you must be ActionScript savvy. To insert one of the Widgets that does ship with Captivate start by choosing Window followed by Widget. Here in the Widget Panel you can see that Adobe Captivate ships with three different types: Static, Interactive and Question. In this case I'm going to choose the Widget entitled Print Slides. Now to insert this I can either click on the Insert link here or I can just drag and drop my Widget onto the first line like so. Here, in the New Widget dialog, you can see that I have a number of tabs including a Widget Parameters tab. If I choose Widget Parameters in this case all I get is a series of instructions. Now just before I close this dialog box I'm going to go to the Options tab here and set the Display For to Rest of project. I'll now position the Widget and then Preview. Clicking on the Print icon now enables me to select the thumbnails of the slides I wish to print, but what does that Parameters tab have the Widget dialog actually mean? Well, to demonstrate this in a little more detail let me close the Preview, scroll down to the bottom here and go to another slide. Because I've specified that the Print Slides Widget should be visible for the entire project we now have the Print Slides Widget displayed here. But what I'm going to do is I'm going to show the Widgets Panel and I'm going to scroll down and I'm going to click on Insert to insert a Pie Chart Widget. This time if I click on the Widget Parameters section here you can see that I can add additional information that I want to be included in the Widget. I'll quickly add some Category Names. Again I'll choose Rest of slide here and make sure that the Transition Effect has been switched off. You can now see the text that's been added automatically via the Parameters section of that dialog box to my Widget and if I Preview, just press F8 here, that's the way in which this particular Widget is now rendered when I Preview or Publish.
