To create a rollover slidelet, begin by opening the file Rollover Slidelet Start which you'll find in the Chapter 8 Work Files folder. From the Insert Menu, choose Standard Objects and then Rollover Slidelet to begin the process of creating your slidelet. In the dialog that now appears, you can set the appearance of your new slidelet and if you really wanted to, apply a background image. From the Options section, you can also set the normal properties as well as show a runtime shadow. Remember that runtime means that the shadow will only be visible when you preview or publish. In this case I'm just going to click OK. The first step is to move the rollover slidelet and position it over the ladybug. Next I'll double click on the hot spot and then specify that if the user clicks inside the rollover slidelet, I want it to stick. From the Options section I'm going to deselect the Show Runtime Border and then while still in this particular section, I'll increase the effect to 9.7 seconds. Having done that, I'll click OK. Next I'll click inside the slidelet itself. Now, notice that by default the duration for this particular slidelet will be three seconds, which quite frankly just isn't going to be enough time for the learner to read all the text I want to put inside the slidelet. To remedy this I'm going to extend the duration to 20 seconds. Notice also that when I now click back inside the slide, the timeline for the slide is displayed and not the slidelet. So back in the timeline for the slide you can see that the total duration for this particular slide is just ten seconds. So how come I can set the slidelet timeline to 20 seconds? The reason is pretty straightforward once you get your head around it. If the learner does not rollover or click inside the rollover slidelet, the duration of the slide will just be ten seconds. If they rollover or click inside the hot spot area, then the slidelet timeline is triggered and the slidelet will be visible for 20 seconds, thus ensuring they'll have enough time to read all the text about ladybugs before the slidelet is automatically closed. So even though a runtime slidelet has a close button, the duration of the slidelet is still controlled by the length of the objects on the slidelet timeline. Another great feature of rollover slidelets is that you can redraw the shape of the hot spot. To do this I'm going to right click and then choose the option Redraw Shape. Now I can just click and drag as I did with the polygon tool in a previous lesson and create my hot spot around that ladybug. Now let's add the content to the slidelet. I'm going to reposition this, double click, also change the fill color. We'll make it a green, set the Fill Transparency to zero and I'll also remove the border and click OK. Next I'm going to resize this particular slidelet so that when I add my text it'll all fit and to do that I'll click on the second slide, select my text. I'm going to choose Copy from the Context Menu, click inside the slidelet itself and then choose Paste. I'll position that, go back to the second slide, copy the graphic and again, paste this inside. Just reposition that like so and now I'll resize the slidelet. OK, that looks good. Now, if we look at the timeline for the slidelet, you can see at present this graphic is still only going to be visible for three seconds, which isn't enough time. In addition, the actual text caption itself is only going to be present for 17 seconds, which again just isn't enough time. So what I need to do before I preview is just drag that text caption to increase the duration to 20 seconds and I'm also going to do the same here for the ladybug image but instead of clicking and dragging I'm going to right click and I'm going to choose this command entitled Show for Rest of Slidelet. Now that I'm happy with the way in which the slide looks, I can test it by pressing F10 on the keyboard and now if I click inside that, you can see that the slidelet will remain visible on screen for 20 seconds.
