Subtitles of the Movie
As with all the objects you've seen so far in this course, Shapes appear on the Timeline and by default have a duration of 3 seconds. To alter the duration you could either double-click, go to the Options section and then enter a new value, or simply click and drag at the end of the object and extend the duration like so. Captivate also lets you draw Free Form using the Polygon Tool. Like many other Polygon Tools you click to add points. To complete the shape you can either double-click to add the final point, known as a node, or mov back to the first node, like so. Once the shape has been drawn you can then edit the points from this Toolbar and, as you would expect, this option is also available from the context menu. You can start over by choosing Redraw Shape, which again is also available in the context menu. Another great feature is being able to add text directly into a shape. To do this start by selecting the shape and then click on the Add Text button shown here. You can also press F2. Now you simply enter the text you want to include in the shape. You can change the Color, et cetera, as well as the Alignment and to do that I'll have to first select the shape itself and then click back on the Edit Text, or I can right-click and choose the option from the context menu. I'll align this in the Center, like so. Notice now that when I move this shape the text also moves with it because they are, in fact, one solid object. Sometimes you might find that when you're drawing a straight line you may want this to snap to an object such as a rectangle. To do this, having drawn the shape, go to the View Menu and then choose Snap to Object. This option is also available in the Mini Toolbar as you can see here. Now when I click the Draw Line Tool, the line will snap to the contours of the object when it comes in contact with it. When it comes to aligning objects in Captivate, as you would probably expect, you have a number of options. Firstly, you can align objects using the Grid. To show the Grid, go to the View Menu and choose Show Grid. If I go back to the View Menu you can see that we also have a Snap To Grid command. Again, both of these options are available in the Mini Toolbar. Now when you click and drag an object it will automatically snap to the grid, as you can see here. You can change the Grid Size by entering a new value in the Preferences. You can change the Grid Size by entering a new value in this text box found in the Preferences. I'll increase that to 32. On top of this you can also align objects using the Alignment Toolbar. If this isn't visible, start by choosing Window, Toolbars and then Alignment. The Toolbar now appears down here at the bottom. To align all three of these items I'll start by selecting them and in this case I'll choose Align Bottom. In addition, you can also distribute objects, both horizontally or vertically, as well as resize them, resize them to the same size and center them horizontally or vertically as well. If you decide that you're not happy with the result you can always undo the change and choose another option.
