Adobe GoLive is Adobe's professional level web editing program. GoLive is what's referred to as a Wysiwyg program. That's spelled here w.y.s.i.w.y.g. pronounced wizzy wig. Awful fun to say. I highly recommend it. And what Wysiwyg stands for is "What You See Is What You Get." You see in the old days of web design you'd have to do everything by code. Well that really limited the user base of web design. Very few people could do it. Until programs like GoLive came out and Wysiwyg editors, like GoLive, started becoming more popular, where you could design things visually and the program would automatically generate the HTML code for you. There are many powerful features in GoLive. The use to CSS - "Cascading Style Sheets" which are very popular. And if you actually - your going to get into web design, that's probably the area you want to focus on. CSS is extremely powerful and very trendy right now actually. However, like most very advanced deep features, we won't be covering that in this training series. This is just a basic glance at what GoLive can do and how to use it. GoLive is also a little bit different than the other programs we've talked about so far in that it is not the industry leader. Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign are all the leaders in their field. The undisputed champions of their respective areas. But the champion of Wysiwyg web editors is actually Macromedia Dreamweaver. Well, since the release of Adobe GoLive. Adobe acquired Macromedia and so Macromedia Dreamweaver is now Adobe Dreamweaver. And it's my personal prediction that we're going to see a lot more of Dreamweaver in the future and a lot less of GoLive. Dreamweaver had a much more powerful market share. More people use it, hands down. And it is a more powerful and reliable tool than GoLive. As evidence of that, Dreamweaver is now included in the Creative Suite along with GoLive. I'll be mentioning Dreamweaver a little bit later on in the training series very briefly. But in order to be thorough, I want to go over GoLive and also many people won't be updating their software. Depending on the company that you work for and how stingy they are with their cash, you may be stuck with the Creative Suite 2 for quite some time. So even when CS3 comes out you might still need to use GoLive for your web design. That's why I want to cover it here. So let's get started by actually designing your very first website.
