Creative Suite 2 Universals / Character & Paragraph Palettes pt. 2
Subtitles of the Movie
Now I mentioned shifting the baseline a little bit earlier here. But there is a cooler way to do it. A lot of times for example. I'm going to click here on my text and create a new line. I'm going to type H2O for water. But this obviously isn't believable so what we could do is select the 2 and drop the baseline which looks a little bit better I guess. But there is a cooler way to do it. Select 0 here. Now if you actually use subscript which will automatically lower the baseline of this number and shrink it down a little bit which just adjusting the Baseline Shift does not do. We could also select Super Script which will make this above the baseline and a little bit smaller as well. So if you had a McDonalds or if you have a cent sign, for example, dollars and cents and you wanted to raise up that cent sign a little bit, Super Script might be a great way to go there. And we could also underline and we can strike through and we can change the language for spell checking. We could change anti-aliasing options, a whole bunch of stuff. We could use the paragraph pallet to change the formatting whether we want it center aligned, left aligned, right aligned, adjustification options, justified all lines, etc, etc. And again these character and paragraph pallets vary slightly from application to application. But on the whole the options are going to be the same. Tracking, Leading, Kerning, Resizing, Baseline Shift. These principles are common all the way around even though some programs have a few extra bells and whistles here and there. But knowing the character and paragraph pallets can really help you make amazing text which is really a core part of good design.
