I'm going to show you a really cool trick here using some 3D text capabilities. I'm going to simply drag out the Type Tool and type the word 3D like so and I'll just move it into position and I'm going to come down here to the Properties for this text and I want to show you that on the Text Property I'm going to go to Animate, Enable per Character 3D. Now, I'm going to put this on in just a moment but I want to show you what happens if I apply a preset that is going to deal with the text itself. Under Animation Presets, I'm going to twirl down until I find Text and then 3D Text. There are a bunch of different little special effects that we can add. For example, let's go ahead and drag a Spiral Down and Unfold right on top of this text. Then what I'm going to do is make sure I am going to go into a 3D camera so I can see what's happening here and I'm going to scrub my timeline. Notice the text is doing all kinds of really cool things. I can also turn this off now because that particular preset will turn that on for you because it needs this to be on for you to be able to get this really great effect of the text coming in and out of the camera; so I'll turn it off and then when I scrub, it only goes in the X now and also the Y axis. No longer does it go in the Z because you need to have this on. So that is another great feature that you might want to incorporate when you're animating text in After Effects. Just turn on the Enable per Character 3D and then when you apply a preset, you'll be able to have some really nice effects applied to your text. So I'm going to try something here called, let's say, Rotate in by Character, drag that right on top again and we'll scrub and see what that looks like; so just another way that you can make your text animations more exciting. You can use these to do all kinds of things like show the opening of a movie and show the name of the movie flying by or a short film or you can use it just to animate the text and do something with a music video or anything. So once again, you can find these presets in the Text Category in the Animation Presets under 3D Text. Just drag and drop your behavior or preset right on top of the text and then scrub the timeline to see what happens. If you're not getting the effect you're looking for, just make sure that you go to Text in your timeline and make sure that Enable per Character 3D is actually on with the checkmark.
