Footage / Import Stills
Subtitles of the Movie
After Effects gives you the ability to not just bring in still images but you have several ways to do that, you can bring in one at a time you can bring in multiples at a time and I'm going to show you several ways right now. Of course we can import anything by simply right clicking and choosing import. We can also go up here to the file menu and choose File, Import and for right now I'm going to simply choose File, just then first one and then we'll go to multiple files. So Import, File and on my Desktop I have a couple of images. I'll bring in just one for now and this is an image that I show you how to create in the Bryce tutorial so definitely check that out when it goes online if it's not there already, and I'll go ahead and increase the resolution to full. So this is one image that was brought in to our composition by simply going to File, Import. Now what if you want to bring in more then one file at a time? Well I'm going to go to File, Import, this time I'll choose multiple files. What I can do with multiple files is I can choose different folders for example. I can choose this image here, click open and then as soon as I do that you'll notice that image is brought into our composition, but by itself this import multiple files dialog box just keeps popping up. So what I can do now is choose another image, click open and then navigate through my hard drive or to an external hard drive to find other images if I so desire. So it's a really handy way to bring in more then one image at a time. And once you're finished just click right here where it says done, unless you enjoy having this dialog box pop up over and over again. So here we see all these different images that have been brought in, into our comp. It's really handy when working. Another way you can bring images in is to go File, Import and choose file again but this time what you can do is hold down on your keyboard the Shift key or if you want to skip around, hold down the command or control key and then you can grab just what you want and then brings those files in from the same dialog box. Now this only works normally when you're in one location, for example one folder, or on your Desktop. It will not allow you to bounce around like the other method gave us by going to another location and having the dialog box reappear by itself. So importing still images is an important way of working in After Effects as well. You can bring in your logos, you can bring in characters to use the puppet tool with and you can also animate properties within the images itself. So that is how you bring in files, stills, into After Effects CS3.
