Navigate The Acrobat Workspace / The Navigation Pane

Subtitles of the Movie

Alright let's explore the navigation pane. I'm just going to open up the outline again and you see now I have removed security from the outline, and we'll talk about the navigation pane which is on the left hand side of the document. Now notice that the navigation pane is closed because when I exited Acrobat the last time the navigation pane was closed. So I can open the navigation pane in a number of different ways. First I can click this icon to open it and click it again to close it. I could choose view the navigation tabs and then select one of the navigation tabs, such as pages to open up the pages part of the navigations tab and I can close it by clicking the button. Or I can open one of the other navigation tabs by clicking the title. Now notice there are five different tabs within the navigation pane, bookmarks, signatures, layers, pages and comments. Now this document doesn't have any bookmarks in it or signatures or layers. But we do have thumbnail icons for the pages and if I click comments, we see that there is one comment in the document, and I can navigation to that point in the document. Now our ‘How To” pane is kind of in the way here, so I'm going to hide it, get a better view of the document, and click this and there is my comment. Now each tab in the navigation pane has an options menu, included in the comments tab and when you click the options icon, the various command on that tabs option menu appear. And you can close the tab by clicking this X. And you'll also find icons within each individual tab. For example, the pages tab has one icon to delete selected pages. The layers tab has no icons, same thing with the signatures tab and the bookmarks tab has an icon to delete selected bookmarks, create a new bookmark and this would be to expand bookmarks. Now to give you an idea what bookmarks look like, let's go in and close this tab down totally and close this document, and I'll open up the Acrobat help files which do have embedded bookmarks in it, to give you an idea of what the bookmarks tab would look like with all of the bookmarks displayed. I’m going to get into each of these individuals tabs in upcoming lessons, but this will show you how to navigate within the navigation pane, how to open and close it and select various elements from within. Now, I'll just go one step further here and I’ll click this printing. Expand that, my computer’s run a little bit slow because I'm capturing video at the same time, I click about printing. And see I’ve navigated to that bookmark within the document. Now I'll just close the pane and in the next lesson, we'll talk about the ‘How To” pane.
