When you want to restrict access of a document to certain individuals, you can do this, if the individuals are on your trusted identities list. And there are several ways you can apply this security. You can choose document, security, encrypt for certain identities using certificates. You can also go into document properties and choose certificate security, but in this case, I'm going to use the security task button to show you another way to achieve the same end. Now, when you choose encrypt for certain identities using certificates, you are prompted to select the digital ID that you are going to secure the document with and if you did not select a digital ID, you would not be able to have access to the document again, because only people on your trusted identities list can open the document. So, when I click OK, I'm prompted to choose individuals from my trusted identities list that will have access to the document. Now, I need to set recipient permissions, and for myself of course, I don't want to restrict any access to the document. Now, for my individual recipients, and if I add more people to this list, I could add additional recipients and set permissions for them. Now when I choose set recipient permissions, I can restrict the printing and editing of the document. In this case I'm not going to allow printing, and I'm not going to allow any change or any copying of text images or other content. And you see the other options I have here for printing, I have low resolution and high resolution. With low resolution, somebody would be able to print the document, but they would not be able to scan the document into Acrobat and create a PDF with high resolution. And under changes allowed, I can choose only document assembly, only form field fill-in and signing, comment authoring, form field fill-in or signing, general editing, commenting and form field authoring. And as like I said I'm going to choose none and I'm going to click OK. When I click OK again I get this warning alert that the settings will not be applied until a document has been saved and closed. Now when I save the document my settings are applied. Now I set up of a couple of bogus ID files to show you how powerful the security is. I'm signed in now as Jack Smith and when I open this document notice my print icon is disabled. I cannot print this document at all. My select text tool is available but I cannot use it to select any text at all. In review and commenting, all of the tools are grayed out, they are not available at all. Now I've logged in under another ID, and when I select a document, the document cannot be opened at all. And that's the power of certificate security. You can control the people that have access to the document and the amount of permissions they have. Now I've logged back in under the ID that I encrypted the document with. When I open the document, see I have got full access to it, printing, commenting, and I can also go back if other people had been added to my recipients list. I could add them to the document or if I wanted to let Jack Smith have additional permissions, I would click his name on my recipients list and I would be able to change what he could do with the document. Once I save the document, the new changes would be put into effect. And the next time, Jack Smith opened the document, he would be able to review and comment and print a low resolution copy of the document.
