Getting Started / Setting up MAMP on Mac

Subtitles of the Movie

We're going to talk about how to download MAMPServer for the Mac. So, in a web browser navigate to mamp Ð m-a-m-p Ð. info, and you should see this page. Once it loads up click the Downloads button. From here you can choose to download the regular MAMP, or MAMP with MAMP PRO. MAMP is free and MAMP PRO is not, but MAMP adds a lot of functionality, like a really nice graphical control panel, that you may be interested in. I'm just going to download the regular MAMP and that'll be fine for our purposes in this video series. You'll be prompted to save the file. It's a compressed file. Save this Zip file somewhere convenient. Once the download completes you'll want to extract the DMG and then double-click it to mount it. Once the download's complete, locate the Archive. Extract the file and then mount the Image file. Drag the MAMP folder into your applications folder to install it. Once the install is complete the MAMP folder beneath your applications folder will look like this. In the Windows version of the videos I'll refer to a folder that is on the same level as your Web Root called Library. Windows users have to create this folder, however, in a MAMP installation, this folder already exists, so when we get to that point in the videos keep in mind that you don't want to overwrite the folder that you already have, you'll just place any files we talk about within this preexisting folder. The htdocs folder is your Web Root folder and it corresponds to the C colon backslash MAMP/www directory that I'll refer to for Windows users. You can start MAMP by double-clicking the elephant Icon. If you've already installed MAMP PRO as well, you'll be presented with this dialog, but launching just the regular MAMP, as I said earlier, will be fine for our purposes in this video series. Your default port will be Port 8888. You'll probably want to change this port to the default ports for a normal installation. To do this, click the Preferences button on your MAMP screen, click the Ports tab and then select Set to Default Apache and MySQL ports, then click OK. The change will be applied and your servers will be restarted. You may have to enter your password here. Once your servers are back online you can browse to your localhost/ MAMP directory and you should get a page like this one.
