Getting Started / Setting up WAMPServer on Windows

Subtitles of the Movie

For our PHP and AIR development setup we're going to be using WampServer for Windows. To download WampServer, navigate to wampserver.com. If you get a page in French and you need to see it in English, click the Union Jack on the right. Then, click the link below Latest Release. This will take you to the download page. Click the link that says DOWNLOAD in all caps. You'll be forwarded to the download page and prompted with an automatic download. Once your download completes, open the file to start the WampServer installer. If you have any previous versions of WampServer already installed, you'll need to uninstall those first before proceeding. Accept the WampServer license agreement and click Next. You'll want to leave the default location here. This is C colon backslash wamp. You may be prompted to choose your default Web Browser. If this is the case, navigate to your Program Files folder, or Program Files x86 folder if you're on a 64-bit Operating System. I'm using Firefox, so I'm going to choose Mozilla Firefox for my Program Files directory, and then the Firefox.exe executable. You might receive a Windows security alert about the Windows Firewall. Make sure you unblock the Apache Web Server. For these post-install parameters you can leave the defaults if you like and click Next. At the end of the setup, leave the Launch WampServer to Now checkbox selected and click Finish. Once WampServer is loaded up you'll get this Icon in the lower right. Initially the server is Offline, so put it Online, click with the primary mouse button Ð usually the left mouse button Ð and select Put Online. Once the speedometer Icon is all white the server is online and it's ready to go. To verify that it's been installed properly open up your web browser and navigate to the URL Local Host. If your installation was successful, you'll see a WampServer landing page, like this one. To make sure php is configured properly and running on our system, choose the phpinfo link in the Tools section. You should get a page like this that tells you which PHP version you're running and also some information about your installation. If this displays properly for you we're ready to begin coding and testing.
