Exam 70-331: Core Solutions of Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013 Course

(SFX) Welcome into the prep course for the Microsoft 70-331 exam. The Core Solutions of Microsoft SharePoint 2013. My name is Greg Dickinson and over the next few hours hopefully we'll take a wonderful journey through the land of SharePoint 2013 and learn a few things along the way. This is the course overview video and in this video we're going to give a very brief overview of all the topics we're going to cover in this course. We're going to start off with a brief overview of exactly what SharePoint is and what Microsoft certifications you can get surrounding SharePoint. We'll then move on to planning for SharePoint. And in those planning topics we will talk about the needs for storage for SharePoint. The needs for dedicated networking for your SharePoint implementation. For the hardware necessary to actually run the SharePoint services and of course the software necessary to run on that hardware and that deals with the operating system and the SQL server and all the various bits and bobs surrounding that. We'll then actually buckle down and install SharePoint. We'll then move onto a discussion of SharePoint farms. We'll talk about the software limits surrounding SharePoint. We'll talk about all the various service applications that you have to have in order to have a successful SharePoint implementation and what many of those services do. And we'll also discuss some of the other farm wide settings necessary for a successful SharePoint implementation. We'll then connect our SharePoint system to an Office Web Apps server and we'll also connect it to a Microsoft Workflow server for the SharePoint 2013 Workflow integration. We'll then move on and talk about the Managed Metadata service, what it is and how to configure it up. And we'll talk about the search services. We'll talk about how to install it and how to manage the topology so you don't overload all the servers in your farm running your search services all the time. Then we'll move onto what is perhaps the most fun part of SharePoint 2013, the user profile services also known as the My Site service. We'll then move and talk about web applications and all the various settings necessary to make them work properly. We'll talk about how to set them up and how to configure them so you get the best performance out of them. And then we'll talk about managing the paths inside your web applications and how to manage alternate access methods which that's a specific phrase that we'll take on great meaning here in just a little bit. We'll then move on to site collections and, and most SharePoint implementations, most administrators spend most of their time dealing just with site collections. We'll talk about the different types of site collections, host header being the one that gets the most attention because it is the newest in SharePoint in 2013. And we'll talk about how to manage the databases for your site collections so that they don't have become overwhelmed with all the data that your users are just throwing at SharePoint all willy nilly. We'll then talk about anonymous access and how to set that up all the way from the web application level down to the site collection or site and then down to the list or library level. We'll then move onto security because now that you have all of this data in SharePoint it needs to be secure. We'll talk about authentication versus authorization and the distinction that is made in SharePoint and in security in general with authentication versus authorization. We'll talk about the various authentication types, forms based, external, Windows, so on and so forth. And we'll talk about SharePoint users and groups and how to apply security settings to users and groups individually, both at the web application and the site collection level. We'll also talk about inheritance and how you can break that inheritance and under what situations you might wish to do so. We'll then move onto monitoring because what good is all of this work you've put into your SharePoint environment if it all falls down every time someone tries to access it. We'll talk about monitoring SharePoint using the built in tools for both SharePoint and the Windows 2012 server. And we'll talk about the SharePoint logs in particular or what's called the ULS or the Universal Logging System. And that concludes the overview of the SharePoint 70-331 course.
